2027 Elections: INEC Opens Candidates’ Credentials For Public Inspection In Lagos

According to Ireporter Online, the exercise is scheduled to begin on Saturday, August 1, 2026, as part of measures aimed at promoting transparency ahead of the general elections.

The commission disclosed the development in a statement issued by its Head of Voter Education and Publicity, Mrs Esther Emeh.

INEC stated that the display of candidates’ particulars is being conducted in accordance with Section 29 of the Electoral Act 2022, which allows members of the public to examine information submitted by political parties and their candidates.

The exercise will be carried out at the INEC Lagos State Office in Sabo-Yaba, as well as the commission’s Local Government Area offices within the affected constituencies.

The electoral body explained that the documents available for inspection would include candidates’ credentials, personal details and affidavits contained in Form EC9, which were submitted by political parties on behalf of their nominees.

INEC encouraged registered political parties, candidates, stakeholders and members of the public to participate in the exercise and carefully review the submitted documents.

The commission further noted that anyone with evidence of false claims, forged credentials or inaccurate information provided by any candidate has the right to pursue legal action in line with the Electoral Act.

INEC urged interested individuals to take advantage of the opportunity to scrutinise the records, stressing that public participation remains important in ensuring credible elections.

The commission reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability and the conduct of free, fair and credible elections as preparations continue ahead of the 2027 polls.
