Osun Election: Over 100 ‘Imported’ Voters Arrested With New PVCs
Security operatives have reportedly arrested more than 100 suspected “imported” voters at the residence of a member of the Osun State House of Assembly during the ongoing governorship election.
According to Ireporter Online, the suspected voters were allegedly found with newly issued Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) while staying at the residence of Hon. Abiola Ibrahim, who represents the Irewole-Isokan Constituency in the state assembly.
The group was reportedly being accommodated at the lawmaker’s residence ahead of the election, amid allegations that they had been brought into the state to participate in the governorship poll.
A video circulating on social media showed one of the suspected voters being questioned by security personnel. During the interrogation, the individual reportedly acknowledged that the group had been gathered at the location to participate in the election.
The development comes amid heightened security and political tension across Osun State as voters cast their ballots to elect the next governor.
Meanwhile, the Imole Campaign Council had earlier raised concerns over the deployment of armed security personnel to the residence of the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun.
The campaign council, through its spokesperson, Pelumi Olajengbesi, alleged that more than 10 black Hilux vehicles conveying security operatives arrived at the Speaker’s residence and reportedly surrounded the premises.
The council claimed that the residence was subsequently sealed off, with people inside allegedly prevented from leaving. However, it said it had not independently established the reason for the security deployment.
The campaign team called on the relevant security authorities to explain the operation, stressing that residents should be allowed to participate in the election without intimidation or interference.
