National Assets Protected: NSCDC Smashes Crude Oil Theft Ring In Rivers
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has apprehended eight individuals allegedly involved in illegal crude oil activities and the vandalism of public infrastructure in Rivers State.
According to Joachim Okafor, the Rivers State Commandant of NSCDC, the suspects were arrested at various locations across the state while transporting illegally refined petroleum products. Additionally, they were found with concrete rods meant for manholes, hedge beams, and stolen metals from public facilities.
Addressing journalists at a press briefing in Port Harcourt, Okafor disclosed that the Command’s Anti-Vandal Unit and Tactical Team also impounded five vehicles, including three trucks, used for transporting stolen crude oil and vandalized materials.
He emphasized the NSCDC’s commitment to combating economic sabotage and protecting national infrastructure, stating, “At the conclusion of investigations, those found culpable will face prosecution.”
Okafor further warned potential vandals to desist from damaging critical national assets, adding that the agency’s operatives remain vigilant. He urged citizens to report suspicious activities in their neighborhoods, emphasizing that “security is everyone’s responsibility.”
