The operation uncovered approximately 5,500 liters of stolen crude oil and 2,000 liters of illicitly refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO). These were stored in one oven, nine dug-out pits, and 28 polythene sacks.
Navy Captain Ikenna Okoloagu, the commander of the base, confirmed that this operation was part of the ongoing efforts to combat oil theft, pipeline vandalism, and other forms of economic sabotage, in line with the broader objective of enhancing Nigeria’s crude oil production.
“The successful operation was based on credible intelligence and supports the ongoing Operation Delta Sanity II,” he stated.
Captain Okoloagu further emphasized that this action aligns with the directives of the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, to eliminate illegal activities within Nigeria’s maritime domain.
Just two weeks earlier, personnel from the FOB Escravos had dismantled three illegal refining sites in the area, seizing 3,700 liters of stolen crude oil and 2,600 liters of illegally refined AGO.
The Nigerian Navy remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of Nigeria’s oil resources and combating illegal oil operations in the region.
