In a compelling address delivered in Abuja, NBA President Yakubu Maikyau SAN, underscored the urgent need for robust interventions to address the dire security situation afflicting many parts of the country.
Amidst growing concerns over the erosion of public confidence in the government’s ability to tackle insecurity effectively, Maikyau emphasized the imperative for transparent communication and engagement between the government and the people. He called upon President Tinubu to demonstrate unwavering commitment to safeguarding the lives and properties of Nigerians, urging for comprehensive measures to fortify security across all regions.
Highlighting the multifaceted nature of the security crisis, Maikyau stressed the necessity of tailored approaches to address unique challenges in different regions of the country. He advocated for strategic investments in security infrastructure, aligned with global best practices, to bolster national sovereignty while combating criminal elements.
In a bold stance against the backdrop of economic downturn, Maikyau also demanded urgent action to address the nation’s ailing economy, citing rampant inflation, currency devaluation, and escalating food prices as pressing concerns. Expressing solidarity with the plight of Nigerian farmers who face mounting challenges due to insecurity, he called upon the government to articulate clear strategies for economic recovery and revitalization.
Furthermore, Maikyau issued a stern warning regarding the Enhanced Trade Investment agreement between Nigeria and the United Kingdom, vowing legal action if concerns regarding its implications for local businesses and legal practitioners are not addressed. He underscored the NBA’s commitment to upholding legal integrity and protecting the interests of Nigerian citizens against perceived threats posed by such agreements.
As the nation grapples with multifaceted challenges, Maikyau’s impassioned plea serves as a clarion call for decisive leadership and concerted efforts to address the pressing issues facing Nigeria.
