in the Khana and Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers State. The project, which is 70% complete, is expected to be finished by mid-next year.

The NDDC’s Managing Director, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, made the assurance during an inspection of the project, which included a 1.2-kilometer-long bridge. Ogbuku noted that the bridge is one of the longest in the country and will provide multiple gateways to Bony Island.

The paramount ruler of Ataba Kingdom, King Benson Uruk, expressed joy at seeing the NDDC back on the project, saying that the community had almost lost hope. He assured the NDDC that the people of Ataba would not disrupt the project.

The NDDC team also inspected other projects, including the 30km Nsasak Junction-Akon Road that links Akwa Ibom and Abia state, which was awarded in 2012 but has been stalled. Ogbuku expressed commitment to reviewing the project’s scope and mobilizing contractors to resume work as soon as possible.

The projects are significant because they will reduce the cost of transportation between Rivers and Akwa Ibom states and provide an alternative route for commuters.
