flight operations from December 15, 2024. The approval is valid for six months and allows private jets and chartered flights to operate between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

According to a letter dated December 11, 2024, the NCAA granted the approval to enable the validation of pending findings from its last inspection and allow the state government to address outstanding corrective action items. The airport must comply with various requirements, including air traffic services, aerodrome rescue and firefighting services, aviation security, and meteorological services.

The approval is seen as a significant milestone by Governor Biodun Oyebanji, who hailed it as justification for the state’s investment in the airport. The project is expected to boost Ekiti’s socioeconomic growth and make the state more accessible.

The Ekiti airport has been under construction, with the state government signing Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and Service Level Agreements with federal aviation agencies to support its operations. The governor had earlier promised that the airport would commence operations before the end of the year, which has now been achieved.
