Unveiling the operation, NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi discloses that sixty bags of the highly sought-after psychoactive substance, weighing a staggering 33.5 kilograms, were surreptitiously stashed within the hollow compartments of the giant wooden sound boxes.

Amidst the bust, three suspects have been apprehended in connection to the illicit cargo: freight agent Akeem Afeez, logistics company manager Babalola Ayodeji Gboyega, and consignment receiver Taiwo Olusegun Anuoluwapo, following comprehensive investigations spanning from Thursday 15th to Friday 16th February 2024.

Furthermore, in a coordinated raid operation in Umuahia, a nexus of drug trafficking operations was dismantled, resulting in the arrest of seven individuals, including a female lawyer, her boyfriend, and other family members involved in the illicit drug trade. Various quantities of cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, and cannabis, among other substances, were seized, alongside substantial monetary exhibits.

The NDLEA’s vigilant efforts extend beyond Lagos, with successful interceptions and arrests made in Abuja, Kano, Ogun, and Kogi states, culminating in the confiscation of significant quantities of cannabis and related substances, as well as the apprehension of several suspects involved in trafficking activities.

As the agency continues its relentless crackdown on drug-related crimes across the nation, the latest seizure underscores the pervasive nature of illicit drug trafficking and the importance of robust law enforcement measures to combat this scourge plaguing communities nationwide.
