Speaking at the formal handover ceremony held at NRC headquarters in Ebute Metta, Lagos, Opeifa outlined his administration’s focus on modernization, efficiency, and security.

The event was graced by notable figures, including former Lagos State Deputy Governor and Senior Special Adviser to the President on Sustainable Development Goals, Mrs. Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire; Lagos State Special Adviser on Transportation, Sola Giwa; APC Chieftain Fuoad Oki; and retired Assistant Inspector General of Police, Hakeem Odumosu.

Opeifa, a former Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, affirmed his commitment to repositioning the NRC, stating, “We will be bold in driving the corporation toward national prosperity.” He emphasized that his administration’s vision aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and Nigeria’s 25-year Strategic Rail Modernization Plan.

Key Priorities

• Security: Strengthening collaboration with security agencies to protect NRC assets and passengers.
• Modernization & Expansion: Upgrading rail infrastructure and integrating new technologies.
• Enhanced Connectivity: Strengthening links between major cities, ports, and economic centers.
• Service Excellence: Improving customer experience with more reliable and efficient operations.
• Private Sector Partnership: Encouraging private investment to boost revenue and overall economic impact.

Opeifa also stressed the importance of transparency, accountability, and inclusive governance in achieving these goals.

Expressing gratitude to President Tinubu for the opportunity, he assured Nigerians of his commitment to delivering on his mandate. He also acknowledged the contributions of his predecessor, Mr. Fidet Okhiria, who was absent due to health reasons, and commended the NRC team for their dedication.

“I pledge to responsibly manage the resources entrusted to me for the benefit of the Nigerian people,” Opeifa stated.

The official handover was conducted by Okhiria’s representative. In her remarks, Orelope-Adefulire expressed confidence in Opeifa’s ability to reposition the NRC for national progress, urging him to view the appointment as a call to service.

The ceremony concluded with a thanksgiving and reception at Opeifa’s constituency in Agege, Lagos.
