Newcastle United Complete Amar Dedić Signing From Benfica
Newcastle United have completed the signing of Bosnia and Herzegovina international Amar Dedić from Benfica for a reported fee of around £30 million.
According to Ireporter Online, the 24-year-old defender has signed a five-year contract with the Premier League club after completing his medical on Tyneside on Monday.
The transfer was officially announced by Newcastle on Tuesday, coinciding with Dedić’s 24th birthday. His arrival also reunites him with manager Matthias Jaissle, who previously coached him at Red Bull Salzburg during their Austrian title-winning campaign in 2023.
Dedić expressed his excitement about joining Newcastle and said he was eager to begin his career at St James’ Park and play in front of the club’s supporters.
The defender becomes an important addition to Newcastle’s squad following the departure of experienced right-back Kieran Trippier, who left the club on a free transfer after his contract expired before joining Wolves.
Dedić could make his Newcastle debut against Liverpool in the Premier League opener on Sunday, with Tino Livramento still recovering from a calf injury sustained while representing England in June.
Jaissle welcomed the opportunity to work with Dedić again, describing him as a player whose development he has followed closely since their time together in Austria.
The Newcastle manager believes the defender will strengthen both the defensive and attacking aspects of the team, highlighting his athleticism, aggression, technical ability and potential for further development.
Dedić is also looking forward to experiencing Premier League football and the atmosphere at St James’ Park, describing the opportunity as a special moment in his career.
His arrival gives Newcastle another quality option at right-back as the club prepares for the new Premier League campaign.
