Content creator and actress Oluwabukunmi Adeaga-Ilori, popularly known as Kiekie, has recounted a frightening encounter with suspected thugs while filming content in Lagos, saying she was forced to pay about ₦700,000 before she could leave the location.

According to Ireporter Online, Kiekie disclosed the experience while speaking during the second panel session of the Creative Powerhouse Summit, where she discussed some of the challenges creatives face when producing content in public spaces.

The actress recalled that the incident occurred in the Obalende area of Lagos after she had completed filming a one-minute video. She said the situation became tense when she attempted to leave and a group of people reportedly blocked the exit.

According to her, the group initially demanded ₦1 million from her before negotiations began. Despite pleading with them, she eventually paid approximately ₦700,000 to secure her departure from the location.

Kiekie said she was particularly frightened by the large crowd that had gathered around her, noting that she saw nearly 200 people at the scene and became concerned about her safety.

She explained that similar challenges had affected her productions in other locations, forcing her to spend significant amounts on security simply to create content safely and within schedule.

The actress recalled another experience while filming around the Kara area after Berger in Lagos, where she said she had to arrive with security personnel and still spent close to ₦500,000 for protection during a short production.

Kiekie also revealed that creatives sometimes face situations where their equipment is seized while filming. She recounted an incident in Abeokuta where members of a production team, including actors, producers and directors, became involved in a confrontation while trying to protect their work.

She stressed that creating a safer and more organised environment for filmmakers and content creators would improve productivity and allow creatives to focus on their work without fear.

Kiekie added that after returning home from the Obalende incident, she discovered that part of the video required a reshoot but became too afraid to return to the location, fearing that doing so could put her life at risk.
