Portuguese football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has hinted that he could bring his illustrious professional career to an end after the 2026/2027 season.

According to Ireporter Online, the 41-year-old forward made the revelation during an interview with Vogue published on Sunday, August 17, 2026, saying he wants to leave behind a spectacular legacy before stepping away from the game.

Ronaldo began his professional career in 2002 with Sporting Lisbon before earning a major move to Manchester United in 2003. He later joined Real Madrid in a then-world-record transfer before going on to represent Juventus and returning to Manchester United.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner eventually moved to Saudi Arabia, joining Al Nassr in January 2023. His current contract with the Saudi Pro League club is scheduled to expire on June 30, 2027, with no confirmed extension announced.

Reflecting on his future, Ronaldo said his possible retirement would mark the end of a 25-year journey defined by sacrifice, success and commitment to the sport.

He explained that he has already considered how he would spend his time after football, including travelling, spending more time with family and enjoying activities such as padel.

Ronaldo recently married his longtime partner, Georgina Rodríguez, and has indicated that life beyond football will provide opportunities to focus more on his family and personal interests.

Throughout his career, Ronaldo has won major domestic and international honours, including league titles in England, Spain, Italy and Saudi Arabia. He has also lifted the UEFA Champions League trophy five times and claimed five Ballon d’Or awards.

However, the FIFA World Cup remains the major international honour missing from his decorated résumé. His best finish at the tournament came in 2006, when Portugal reached the semi-finals and eventually finished fourth.

With the 2026/2027 campaign potentially marking his final season, the football world now awaits what could be the closing chapter of one of the greatest careers in the history of the sport.
