Niger Delta Group Reacts To Keyamo’s Ministerial Nomination

Tinubu recently added Festus Keyamo and Mariya Mahmoud to the list of ministerial nominees to be screened and confirmed by the Senate. This move followed the withdrawal of Maryam Shetty’s nomination from Kano.

This new list of 19 nominees came just six days after the President initially submitted a list of 28 nominees to the parliament.

In a statement released on Sunday, Soki Etebu, the leader of the oil and gas professionals, praised Tinubu’s actions and regarded him as a man of integrity. Etebu further emphasized that Festus Keyamo signifies progress and determination. He expressed his satisfaction that Keyamo would be joining an administration focused on enhancing the lives of Nigerians.

Etebu expressed his hope that Festus Keyamo would be assigned the role of Minister of Petroleum, fulfilling the President’s pledge to Niger Delta activists to appoint a representative from the region to oversee the crude oil sector.

The statement read, “Festus Keyamo is the perfect fit for this position; he boasts a strong legal background, hails from the Niger Delta, has championed the cause of the region’s people, and possesses the temperament to drive growth and advancement in the sector. He is well-versed and experienced enough to carry out reforms, streamline the sector, and oversee the implementation of the Petroleum Industry Act, among other tasks.”

“We have full confidence in Keyamo; he is diligent, resolute, knowledgeable, and ready to excel in the ministry. We urge the Senate to collaborate with President Tinubu to swiftly screen and approve his appointment.”
