Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, the Minister of Trade, Industry, and Investment, made the announcement during an ongoing ministerial media briefing in Abuja. She highlighted the significance of the Trade Intelligence Unit, emphasizing its collaborative efforts with other key government bodies such as the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, the Nigerian Customs Service, Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
The Trade Intelligence Unit will serve as the national coordinator and focal point for all trade-related data and information in Nigeria. Utilizing advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, and big data analytics, the unit aims to provide invaluable insights into global market trends. These insights will empower Nigerian traders to make informed decisions, enhance trading capacities, and navigate potential economic shocks effectively.
The establishment of the National Trade Intelligence Unit aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Eight Point Agenda, which prioritizes initiatives aimed at driving economic growth and promoting competitiveness in Nigeria. It reflects the government’s commitment to fostering innovation, supporting local businesses, and creating an enabling environment for trade and investment.
The launch of this unit signals a significant milestone in Nigeria’s quest to become a major player in the global trade arena. By harnessing the power of data and technology, the country aims to position itself at the forefront of international trade, driving economic prosperity and sustainable development for its citizens.
