Just days after the Nigerian Navy’s successful raid on an illicit oil refining site, this latest operation led by Brigadier General Eddie Effiong, Commander of the 6 Division Garrison and Sector 3 of Operation Delta Safe, has yielded remarkable results.
During the meticulously planned operation aimed at curbing oil theft and illegal bunkering, the army discovered a staggering one million litres of crude oil, stored in eight reservoirs and five boilers concealed within the community’s dense forest.
Brigadier General Effiong, addressing the press shortly after the operation, revealed that each reservoir contained approximately 100,000 litres of stolen crude, intended for refinement into Automated Gas Oil (diesel) before the intervention of army operatives.
Effiong emphasized the persistence of illegal oil operations despite previous crackdowns, underscoring the need for continued vigilance and proactive measures to combat such illicit activities.
Moreover, he reiterated the army’s commitment to employing both kinetic and non-kinetic approaches, including dialogue with community leaders and youth, to dissuade individuals from engaging in criminal activities detrimental to national interests.
In a stern warning to perpetrators, Effiong urged those involved in sabotaging the nation’s economy to reconsider their actions and seek lawful means of livelihood, stressing the detrimental impact of such illicit operations on the country’s economy and well-being.
As the Nigerian Army intensifies its efforts to root out illegal oil activities in the Niger Delta region, this latest operation underscores its unwavering determination to safeguard national resources and promote economic prosperity for all Nigerians.
