Nigerian Government Takes Action Against Substandard Water Supply Equipment

In response, the government has announced plans to sanction companies responsible for manufacturing subpar products used in water supply and irrigation.
During a visit to a Kano-based company specializing in the production of pipes and fittings for water supply and irrigation systems, Minister Utsav emphasized the government’s stance against substandard equipment. He warned that companies found importing or producing inferior products will face consequences.
Expressing satisfaction with the quality of products at the visited company, the minister urged them to maintain their standards and uphold local content promotion in line with the Nigerian Content Policy.
Highlighting the importance of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Agenda, Minister Utsav encouraged collaboration between water users and the company, emphasizing the government’s commitment to providing potable water to the populace.
He stressed the necessity of securing water supply schemes, citing instances of scheme failures attributed to the use of substandard materials. The minister called upon stakeholders in the irrigation sector to engage in partnerships aimed at ensuring the quality and reliability of water infrastructure across the country.
