Nigerian Navy Arrests Four For Alleged Metallurgical Coal Theft In Kogi

Commander Moses Epelle of NNS Lugard disclosed to reporters in Lokoja that the suspects were nabbed on April 4, 2024, following a tip-off about unauthorized individuals pilfering metallurgical coal near the company’s jetty.

The suspects, identified as Abdulrazak Danjuma, Idris Abdullahi, Suleiman Ibrahim, and Musa Muhammed, were apprehended as they attempted to transport around 400 bags of the stolen materials via a wooden boat to an undisclosed destination.

Epelle commended the joint effort of the Navy officers and local vigilantes, emphasizing the need for heightened security measures at the Ajaokuta Steel Company to deter criminal activities.

The commander confirmed that the suspects would be handed over to the police for prosecution, reiterating the Nigerian Navy’s commitment to curbing criminal activities along Kogi State’s waterways.

Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, lauded the Navy’s efforts in combating criminal elements in the state, emphasizing the importance of inter-agency collaboration in ensuring improved security.

Governor Ododo reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering stance against criminal activities and urged citizens to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by providing credible information.

Additionally, the Governor witnessed the transfer of a suspected drug peddler, apprehended with substances believed to be marijuana, to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at the NNS Lugard Base near Lokoja.
