Speaking at a Senate Committee hearing regarding proposed salary increases for judicial officers, Ariwoola, represented by Chief Judge Kashim Zannah of Borno, stressed that the demand for salary adjustments is essential for the well-being of the populace.
He explained, “The welfare of judges directly impacts the quality of justice. Neglecting their compensation not only affects their performance but also undermines the entire judicial system, ultimately impacting the lives of ordinary Nigerians.”
Ariwoola urged swift action, likening the current situation of judges to a patient in critical condition in the ICU. He emphasized the need to stabilize their financial well-being before addressing other aspects of judicial reform.
Highlighting the prolonged neglect, Ariwoola pointed out that judges’ salaries have remained stagnant since 2007, despite inflation and economic challenges. He urged the Senate to expedite the salary review process to alleviate the financial strain faced by judges nationwide.
