NLC Calls On Government To Simplify Retirement Process For Nigerian Workers
In the midst of Nigeria’s economic challenges, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) is advocating for a smoother transition into retirement for Nigerian workers. NLC President, Joe Ajaero, emphasized this need during discussions with a delegation from XEM Consulting Limited, a subsidiary of XEM Group, organizers of the upcoming Pre-retirement Summit slated for April 24th to April 25th in Abuja…….READ ALSO Former NLC President Passes Away
Ajaero highlighted the ongoing challenges surrounding contributory pension schemes, noting that despite legislative efforts, there has been insufficient progress from regulators. He expressed concern over the delayed participation of many states and the lack of enforcement of laws penalizing non-compliance.
Reflecting on the state of pension affairs in the country, Ajaero lamented the growing disparity between rhetoric and tangible action. He urged both the federal and state governments to prioritize workers’ pension rights and ensure a dignified life post-retirement.
Highlighting the dual role of governments as both employers and regulators, Ajaero stressed the urgency for regulatory bodies to actively address the issue. He underscored the plight of retirees who often encounter difficulties accessing their pension funds, attributing this to systemic challenges within the Pension Fund Administrators (PFAs).
As Ajaero and the NLC continue to advocate for reforms, their message resonates with the broader goal of ensuring a more secure and seamless retirement experience for Nigerian workers.
