Abure secured his re-election during the party’s national convention held in Nnewi, Anambra State, on Wednesday, where all members of the National Working Committee (NWC) were also reinstated. However, slots for representatives of the NLC and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) remained vacant.

In response to the convention’s outcome, NLC spokesman Benson Upah, speaking to Punch, criticized the event as a sham.

Upah firmly stated that the NLC would not recognize Abure’s re-election and pledged that the union would not support the party under his leadership. He emphasized that Abure’s return holds no legitimacy in the eyes of the NLC.

“It’s an illegality, a nullity. The whole exercise was a charade! Nothing can legitimise such brazen impunity,” Upah asserted.

When pressed about the labor movement’s future actions, Upah cryptically responded, “You, wait and see.”
