Speaking at a news conference in Lagos, Aniebonam revealed that he had provided Kwankwaso with the platform of NNPP to pursue his presidential ambitions, trusting him with the party’s aspirations. He recounted how he single-handedly registered and nurtured the NNPP from 2002 until 2022 when Kwankwaso and his team sought to join the party for the 2023 presidential election.
Aniebonam disclosed the details of the meeting where Buba Galadima, Sen. Suleiman Hunkuyi, and Prof. Sam Angai approached him to accept Kwankwaso into the NNPP. After conversing with Kwankwaso and assessing his intentions for Nigeria, Aniebonam offered him the NNPP platform as its sole candidate.
Highlighting his role as the founder of NNPP and its parent body, the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF), Aniebonam emphasized the significance of his decision. He noted that despite Kwankwaso’s expulsion from the party for anti-party activities, as a life member of the board, he could grant him pardon if he demonstrated a change in behavior.
Aniebonam stressed that Kwankwaso’s actions constituted a breach of trust, and even if pardoned, he would no longer enjoy the sole candidacy of the NNPP. This declaration underscores Aniebonam’s determination to uphold the integrity of the party and ensure its alignment with its founding principles.
