Emmanuel Fashe, the Chairman of NLC in Adamawa State, presented the joint recommendation of the labour unions, advocating for a review of the minimum wage every two years instead of the current five-year interval.
Similarly, the Adamawa State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) proposed N486,000 per month, highlighting the careful consideration of various family expenses such as feeding, healthcare, housing, transportation, and education.
The Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) in Adamawa State aligned with the NLC’s stance on the new minimum wage.
Other groups also made their recommendations: the National Council of Women Societies (NCWS) in Adamawa State suggested N200,000, while the Muslim Council of Nigeria proposed N75,000.
Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, attended the hearing, while Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri was represented by Deputy Governor Professor Kaletapwa Farauta. The session was chaired by NLC President, Joe Ajaero, and representatives from Gombe, Yobe, Bauchi, Borno, and Taraba states were present.
The government representatives provided varying suggestions: Gombe and Taraba proposed N60,000 as the new minimum wage, Borno State did not take a position, and Yobe suggested a three-yearly review without specifying the wage amount.
