In a statement, South Korean officials condemned the launch as a “clear provocative act” that poses a serious threat to peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula.

This marks North Korea’s second missile test of 2025, following the January 6 test of an intermediate-range missile, coinciding with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s visit to South Korea. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un had touted the hypersonic missile system as a globally significant development.

Japanese Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi confirmed no missiles had landed in Japan’s territory or exclusive economic zone, and no damage was reported. He also highlighted the ongoing coordination between Japan, South Korea, and the United States, including real-time missile alert data sharing, to ensure a robust response.
