in Bauchi on Sunday, Manniru Musa Yisin, the National Coordinator of the group, reflected on the leadership under two different administrations since Jonathan’s tenure, noting that the North now recognizes the positive developments under his presidency.
Yisin stated, “As Northern Nigerians, we felt especially valued during Jonathan’s time in office, particularly with his human development initiatives aimed at addressing the region’s challenges.”
He commended Jonathan’s efforts in the education sector, particularly the Almajiri Education Initiative, which provided educational opportunities for underprivileged Northern Muslim children. However, he lamented that the program was halted after the 2015 elections, leaving a void in educational support for the region’s youth.
Criticizing the current administration, Yisin pointed out the severe economic hardships faced by Nigerians, particularly rising poverty and the heavy tax burden. He warned that if the government’s policies continue, the voter base could shrink in future elections.
The group has also urged Jonathan to consider running for the presidency in 2027, expressing confidence in his leadership abilities to navigate the nation’s current crises. Yisin emphasized the need to maintain Nigeria’s power rotation between the North and South, viewing it as essential for national unity and peaceful coexistence.
