NSA, Service Chiefs, Northern Govs Meet Over Escalating In Kidnapping

The meeting, held behind closed doors on Thursday in Abuja, aimed to address the escalating insecurity in the northern region. In a statement following the meeting, Governor Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State, who chairs the forum, disclosed plans to explore alternative strategies to combat the rising insecurity in the North.

He emphasized the forum’s commitment to supporting the military in their non-kinetic approach to tackle insurgency. The meeting comes in the wake of the recent abduction of about 300 students from a school in Kuriga, Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, by bandits. Addressing the media separately, the military reaffirmed its determination to rescue all abducted victims.

Regarding the abduction of internally displaced persons in Gamboru-Ngala, Borno State, the military clarified that the victims had ventured beyond the permissible distance from the camp. Maj-Gen Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations, highlighted that delays in reporting such incidents impede swift responses from security agencies and other responders.
