According to the state’s NSCDC Commandant, David Ojelabi. During an interview on January 31, 2024, Ojelabi revealed that the NSCDC collaborated with the Federal Ministry of Mines and Steel to address the issue.

In response to the recent explosion in Ibadan, which was linked to explosives used by illegal miners, cautionary letters were sent to mining groups in the state.

Ojelabi emphasized the need to address the porosity of the borders, which facilitates the illegal importation of explosives by miners. He noted that the ease of access to explosives is a result of the country’s porous and unmanned borders.

The NSCDC’s efforts to curb illegal mining activities in Ogun State come amid concerns about the impact of such operations on local communities and the safety of residents.

The NSCDC boss highlighted the collaboration with relevant authorities to address the issue and ensure the security and well-being of the state’s residents
