NYSC Boss Calls for Skill Acquisition to be Added to NDA Curriculum
Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed, has called on the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) to include skills acquisition and entrepreneurship training in its curriculum. He emphasized the importance of equipping future military officers with vital entrepreneurial skills that could benefit them both during and after their service.
Brigadier General Ahmed noted that the rapidly evolving global economy demands more than just military training. Integrating skill acquisition programs would empower NDA cadets with knowledge in various trades and business opportunities, preparing them to excel in multiple fields beyond their military careers.
The NYSC boss believes that fostering entrepreneurship among cadets would boost self-reliance and help address unemployment challenges in Nigeria. Incorporating such training at an early stage would provide the officers with a diversified skill set, ultimately contributing to national development.
This initiative aligns with the broader vision of the NYSC to encourage Nigerian youth to embrace self-employment through its Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) program. By advocating for its inclusion in the NDA’s curriculum, Brigadier General Ahmed hopes to inspire a generation of multi-skilled military officers equipped to tackle both national defense and economic growth challenges.
