IGP Disu Calls Out Lagos Cops After Stop-And-Search Video Sparks Outrage
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has ordered officers featured in a widely circulated stop-and-search video in Lagos to report to the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters in Abuja for disciplinary review. According to reports, the officers involved in the Satellite Town incident are expected to appear on Wednesday amid public concern over their conduct during the roadside operation.
In the video, which has gone viral on social media, the officers stopped a vehicle, instructed its occupants to step out, and conducted a search on one individual away from the car. The Force’s spokesman, CSP Aliyu Giwa, stated that the directive underscores the police’s commitment to accountability and professionalism.
He emphasized that all officers must respect citizens’ rights, exercise restraint, and follow proper procedures while performing their duties. Giwa assured the public that the outcome of the disciplinary review will inform subsequent actions and reaffirmed the Force’s dedication to justice, discipline, and integrity.
“The Nigeria Police Force values public concerns, which reinforce our commitment to accountability and professional standards,” Giwa said in a statement. The video, which ignited widespread outrage, was first shared on X by the user @ChuksEricE, drawing attention to the conduct of the officers involved.
