Security Forces Nab Suspected Terrorist In Kwara State

The Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the arrest of a 20-year-old suspect, Mallami Abubakar, over alleged connections to terrorist groups operating within the country. According to Ireporter Online, the suspect was apprehended last Thursday in Nanu, located in Kaiama Local Government Area, during a routine patrol conducted by security operatives.

The development was disclosed in an official statement issued on Saturday by the Command’s spokesperson, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, who revealed that the suspect, a native of Isanlu Dankuturu in Kogi State, was intercepted while officers were carrying out surveillance operations in the area.

Preliminary investigations by the police indicated that the suspect had allegedly been contacted on March 30, 2026, by an associate identified simply as “Babi,” said to be from Babana Village in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State. The individual reportedly invited him to travel to Farinsuni through Baruten Local Government Area with the intention of joining a group believed to be affiliated with the Islamic State West Africa Province and the Lakurawa network.

Security authorities confirmed that the suspect remains in custody as investigations continue to determine the extent of his involvement and to identify other individuals who may be linked to the case. The Command emphasized that efforts are ongoing to dismantle criminal networks and strengthen security across the state.
