Obaseki Flags Off Feeding Initiative, Orders FG To Learn From State’s Success

Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki, alongside leaders of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), and other Christian bodies, has flagged off the second phase of the Christian Feeding Programme (CFP). This initiative will see the distribution of 56,250 bags of 10KG rice across the state’s three senatorial districts to alleviate the suffering of the people.

The governor kicked off the distribution in Edo South Senatorial District and inspected the warehouse at the Dioceses of Benin Anglican Communion on Evbiemwen Street in Benin City. CAN Chairman in the state, Apostle Irekpono Omoike, provided a breakdown of the distribution: Edo South will receive 21,875 bags, Edo Central will get 15,625 bags, and Edo North will receive 18,750 bags.

Obaseki noted that the first phase of the programme occurred about three months ago, helping to alleviate hardship in the region. He thanked Christian leaders for their commitment to making the programme successful, emphasizing that the scheme is non-political and managed by the Church.

Obaseki urged the Federal Government to learn from Edo State’s example, citing the success of the Christian Feeding Programme, which has reached over 50,000 families. He criticized the current national leadership for not adequately serving the Nigerian people.

“If things are done properly in this country, the resources of the nation will go a long way to serve the people. We know there are challenges, but the current leadership is not helping Nigerians. Look at how this programme has been run successfully and transparently. The Federal Government should come learn from Edo State,” Obaseki stated.

He praised the organization and transparency of the CFP, noting its reach to about 50,000 families with food. Obaseki called for honesty and willingness to serve the people, criticizing the Federal Government’s efforts as insufficient.

Obaseki also appealed to the public to avoid actions that could worsen the current situation. He announced plans to engage with citizens in the coming days to discuss resolutions and avoid further complications.

The second phase of the programme aims to correct mistakes from the first phase and consolidate its successes. The third phase will focus on enrolling people in conditional cash transfers, skill programs, agriculture support, trade, micro-finance, and more.

CAN Chairman thanked Governor Obaseki for his palliative measures to mitigate the effects of subsidy removal, acknowledging the governor’s comprehensive approach to easing hardship in the state.
