Osun State Government Demands Return Of Official Vehicles From Former Appointees

According to the government, it is illegal for the Head of Service to authorize any appointee to leave office with official vehicles. Governor Ademola Adeleke had inaugurated a Task Force on Recovery of Assets/Government Project Vehicles to facilitate the return of such assets.

Addressing journalists on behalf of the committee, Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Teslim Igbalaye, emphasized that some former appointees obtained approval from the ex-Head of Service, which was deemed illegal. He outlined conditions under which political appointees could be permitted to take official vehicles home, stressing that any deviation from these conditions constituted a breach of the law.

The Task Force observed that certain vehicles were unlawfully taken away and urged for due diligence in distinguishing between vehicles lawfully permissible to be taken home and those taken away illegally. It also highlighted the governor’s prerogative to allow political appointees to take home official vehicles under specific conditions.

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) responded, expressing concerns over the government’s initial blanket accusation against all former appointees. The party spokesperson, Mr. Kola Olabisi, cautioned against any illegal actions by the administration and emphasized the need for proper coordination to avoid seizing vehicles from rightful owners.

The directive underscores the state government’s commitment to accountability and adherence to legal procedures in asset management, while also highlighting the importance of due diligence and coordination in governance processes. Further developments are expected as the Task Force continues its work to recover government assets.
