This initiative follows the commitment of the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and the Osun State Government to implement decisions aimed at tackling sexual and gender-based violence, as well as other forms of abuse.

A statement from the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, outlined Adeleke’s determination to immediately implement resolutions, including the establishment of mobile courts to address issues related to sexual and gender-based violence and child abuse, such as street begging. Additionally, the governor directed the release of unjustly incarcerated women in the state’s correctional facilities, particularly during the Lent, Easter, and Ramadan periods.

To ensure the effective implementation of these resolutions, Governor Adeleke has formed an action committee comprising key stakeholders. These include the Commissioner for Women Affairs, the Commissioner for Federal Affairs, the Attorney General (represented by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Legal Matters), the Commissioner for Youth Development, and the Osun State Chairperson of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ).

The committee’s mandate is to operationalize the agreements reached between the state government and the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs. This includes facilitating the establishment of mobile courts and overseeing the release of unjustly incarcerated women, among other responsibilities outlined in the joint meeting between the governor and the Federal Minister of Women Affairs.
