million naira allocated by his administration for workers’ salaries.
During the 2025 Armed Forces Celebration service at Queen Elizabeth Chapel in Umuahia on Sunday, Otti expressed his disappointment over reports suggesting otherwise, especially after receiving advice from the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) to settle outstanding payments to judiciary workers.
Otti clarified that his administration is not indebted to the workers, explaining that JUSUN leaders opted out of a minimum wage negotiation process organized by his government and instead prepared their own wage calculations, which were later found to contain inaccuracies.
He disclosed, “On December 24th, we remitted N283,242,318.50 to the judiciary. However, as of this morning, they have refused to pay their workers. It is the judiciary’s responsibility to handle the payment once funds are remitted to their account.”
Additionally, Otti approved an extra N27 million for judiciary workers and facilitated the payment of their thirteenth-month salary. He expressed confusion over their continued strike action and advised the workers to hold their union leaders accountable. He also urged the Nigerian Bar Association to fully comprehend the situation.
During the service, Otti reassured retired and serving members of the Nigerian Armed Forces of his administration’s unwavering support, particularly in these challenging economic times.
In response, Commodore Ekekwe Duroha (retd), State Chairman of the Nigeria Legion, emphasized the need for assistance to surviving ex-servicemen and widows of retired officers.
