the Acting Director-General, Omolara Oloworaran, outlined her vision to reinvigorate the scheme. Oloworaran, who succeeded Aisha Dahir-Umar, identified the limitations of the current MPP, noting its failure to resonate with the informal sector, which encompasses over 70 million Nigerians.

To tackle these issues, PenCom plans to revamp the MPP with a modern structure and integrate advanced technology to enhance accessibility and scalability. The DG also emphasized that her administration aims to rebuild public trust and awareness, which have stagnated in recent years due to allegations of neglect and non-remittance of pension funds.

Under Oloworaran’s leadership, PenCom has recovered an impressive ₦28.5 billion in outstanding pension funds, sending a clear message of accountability. The commission is also working closely with media organizations to address long-standing issues of irregular remittances, particularly in the media sector, where workers have been left vulnerable.

For retirees, PenCom is introducing more flexible withdrawal options, allowing them to access up to 50% of their savings as a lump sum upon retirement, as long as the remaining balance supports sustainable monthly payments.

This renewed focus on transparency and innovation is restoring stakeholders’ confidence. Industry experts believe the revamped MPP will not only drive higher participation but also secure the financial future of millions.

With an ambitious target of 20 million subscribers, PenCom is charting a bold path forward—one anchored on inclusion, accountability, and trust.
