Outrageous Claims: Nollywood Producers Divert Streaming Funds, Says Basketmouth See Why

In an exclusive interview with ireporteronline, Basketmouth claimed that many Nigerian movie producers misuse funds provided by streaming platforms, using only 10% of the allocated budgets for film production while channeling the rest into personal luxury purchases like houses and cars.

He further alleged that some producers compel actors to share their earnings when streaming platforms bypass producers to pay actors directly.

“There was a lot of money when these streaming platforms came in. These producers use only 10% of the funds to make movies. More than 70% of them even pressure actors to give up part of their direct payments. They know themselves, but I won’t mention names,” Basketmouth stated.

The comedian’s revelation coincides with recent reports that global streaming giant Netflix has halted funding for original Nigerian content due to similar concerns.

While Basketmouth refrained from naming individuals, his statements spotlight ongoing challenges in Nollywood’s financial accountability, raising questions about the future of international investments in the industry.
