Examination (PQE), administered by the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN). This exam assesses teachers’ professional competence and ensures the presence of qualified educators in classrooms nationwide.
Dr. Jacinta Ezeahurukwe, Director of Certification and Licensing at TRCN, highlighted the exam’s significance, emphasizing its role in elevating the teaching profession both locally and internationally.
The enforcement of ‘no PQE, no staying in the classroom’ policy since 2019 has driven more teachers to obtain their qualifications, reflecting the increasing recognition of teaching as a regulated and esteemed profession.
Ezeahurukwe also noted the international recognition of TRCN’s PQE, with the UK granting Nigeria status as one of the African countries whose teachers can apply for Qualifying Teachers Status.
