Oyo LG Election Threat: APC Demands BVAS Usage Or Withdraws Candidates

In a bold ultimatum, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has issued a stern warning, declaring its intent to withdraw candidates from the forthcoming local government election unless the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) commits to using the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) for the poll.

Scheduled for Saturday, April 27, 2024, the local government election is set to span all 33 local government areas in the state.

The APC’s stance was articulated in a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Wasiu Olawale Sadare, and conveyed concerns over what it perceives as a “game of deceit” orchestrated by OYSIEC.

Expressing apprehensions regarding the impartiality of the electoral commission, the APC emphasized its refusal to participate in any electoral process marred by subterfuge or bias.

“We have observed with dismay the apparent reluctance of OYSIEC to prioritize the implementation of BVAS, crucial for the seamless conduct of the poll.

“The Commission’s hesitation to embrace BVAS appears to stem from pressure exerted by the ruling PDP, with tacit approval from influential quarters within the state, all in a bid to ensure the victory of PDP candidates at any cost.

“It is evident that the Chairman of OYSIEC may not uphold fairness to all parties, given prevailing circumstances. The reluctance to embrace BVAS is a clear indication of bias, driven by the aversion of PDP elements towards this technology,” the statement asserted.

In unequivocal terms, the APC underscored its non-participation in any electoral process lacking BVAS assurance, cautioning OYSIEC to heed its demand or face the consequence of APC’s withdrawal from the election
