The judge also gave John the option of paying a fine of N300,000 and warned him to abstain from criminal activities and maintain good behavior.

The prosecution, led by Chinedu Ogada, informed the court that the complainant, Igwe Ukoha, reported the incident to the Zuba Police Station. Ukoha had entrusted his vehicle to John for panel beating and painting, but instead of carrying out the agreed-upon work, John took the vehicle to Kaduna State to sell it.

John was apprehended by surveillance operatives of the Kaduna Police Command. The prosecution highlighted that John’s actions violated Section 287 of the Penal Code, which stipulates punishment for theft.

Section 287 of the Penal Code prescribes imprisonment for up to five years or a fine, or both, for individuals found guilty of theft.
