Police Bust Car Snatching Syndicate, Recover 12 Stolen Vehicles In Edo And Delta

The Delta State Police Command has successfully apprehended three suspected members of a car-snatching syndicate operating across Edo and Delta states. The arrests came after one of the suspects was apprehended on April 11 in Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State. Following his confession, the other suspects were arrested in Benin City on Friday.

Edafe explained that one of the suspects had stolen a Toyota Corolla using a master key from DSC township in Oruwhorun, Udu Local Government Area. The stolen car was later spotted on the Eku/Warri road by Oha junction in Okpe Local Government Area.

Upon receiving information about the stolen vehicle, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Orerokpe division, CSP Paul Oboware, mobilized patrol teams and community vigilantes. They intercepted the suspects at the army checkpoint at Orerokpe junction and arrested one of them, aged 47, recovering the stolen vehicle along with the master key used for the theft.

Further investigations revealed that the suspects had a history of stealing cars from parked locations. The arrested suspect led the police to the apprehension of two other suspects, aged 40 and 39, in Benin City. These suspects were specialized in altering old chassis and engine numbers of stolen vehicles before selling them.

The syndicate was also adept at deactivating vehicle trackers to avoid detection. A total of 12 suspected stolen vehicles were recovered from Benin City and Warri during the operation.
