According to Ireporter Online, one person sustained injuries on Monday following an explosion suspected to have been triggered by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at the Shoe Materials Market in the Mushin area of Lagos State.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Tijani, confirmed the incident while addressing journalists at the scene, noting that the command received an emergency distress call and immediately deployed operatives, including personnel from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit.

He stated that the affected area was promptly cordoned off to safeguard traders, residents, and passers-by, while a detailed sweep of the environment was carried out to prevent any further threat.

Preliminary investigations, according to the police commissioner, indicated that the explosive device was concealed beneath the passenger side of a vehicle and detonated when the vehicle was started.

Tijani further disclosed that only one victim was affected in the blast and was quickly rushed to a medical facility, where he is currently receiving treatment and reportedly in stable condition.

He added that no additional explosive device was discovered after a thorough search of the vicinity, and urged residents not to panic, assuring that the situation had been brought under control.

The police commissioner advised members of the public to remain alert and report any suspicious objects or activities to security agencies, stressing that normal commercial activities could continue in the market as investigations are ongoing.
