on Tuesday, October 29, Africa’s wealthiest individual urged the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and marketers nationwide to halt fuel imports.
Accompanied by Finance Minister Wale Edun and Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Dangote revealed that his refinery is capable of meeting the country’s fuel consumption needs when operating at full capacity.
He noted, “Our estimated daily consumption is around 30-32 million liters, and we can start producing that as early as next week. Currently, we have 500 million liters stored, which is enough to sustain the country for over 12 days without any production or imports.”
Dangote added, “We are more than ready to supply the market with 30 million liters per day. I encourage NNPCL and marketers to stop importing and instead collect their fuel directly from us. Maintaining half a billion liters in our tanks incurs costs; I could be charging 32% interest on that amount. If they come to collect, we can eliminate fuel queues at filling stations.”
