Addressing rumors, Damagum dismissed claims that the meeting aimed to rally support for his continued stay as acting chairman. Instead, he clarified that the purpose was to interact with state chairmen, many of whom are newly elected, and discuss matters such as the upcoming zonal congresses.

“This is a routine meeting, not the first of its kind. The focus is to welcome new state chairmen and address ongoing issues like zonal congresses,” Damagum stated. “Contrary to social media speculation, this gathering has nothing to do with NEC deliberations or any attempt to influence party leadership decisions.”

He emphasized that NEC-related matters fall strictly under the jurisdiction of the National Working Committee (NWC).

Imo State PDP Chairman, Austin Nwachukwu, who also serves as the interim chairman of the PDP Chairmen’s Forum, described the meeting as an essential step for fostering unity among the party’s leadership. “With more than half of the attending chairmen newly elected, this session was crucial for building relationships and familiarizing ourselves with the NWC,” Nwachukwu explained.
