Power Tussle In Lagos! Ex-Speaker Obasa ‘Breaks Into’ Meranda’s Office Amid Assembly Crisis

According to Naija News, Meranda addressed journalists on Friday at the Lagos State High Court, where Obasa had filed a legal challenge against his removal.

Speaking on the incident, Meranda acknowledged that Obasa, as a sitting lawmaker, had the right to visit the House but described his forced entry into her office as unacceptable.

“I think he’s still a member of the House of Assembly, so he has every right to come, but invasion and breaking into my office—that is really a big one,” she stated.

She also reacted to the reported withdrawal of her security aides on Thursday, downplaying concerns about her personal safety.

“Well, as you can see, I have my people here with me, and God is with me,” she said.

However, she admitted that her official security detail had been significantly reduced.

“My usual convoy consists of 12 policemen, four DSS operatives, and two Anti-B personnel. As of this morning, I don’t have that. Right now, I think I have just three or four policemen with me,” she revealed.

Reacting to Obasa’s claim that he held a plenary session on Thursday, Meranda dismissed the move, calling it a mockery of legislative procedures.

“To me, that was just a show of shame because in our job, we have numbers that form a quorum. If you are sitting with three or four members, you are only doing theatre,” she said.

As the legal battle over the Lagos State Assembly leadership continues, tensions remain high, with both sides determined to assert their authority.
