Presidency Clashes With Atiku: Economic Vision Sparks Fierce Debate
In a head-on collision of economic visions, the Presidency has forcefully contested former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s proposals, warning that his advocated approach risks plunging Nigeria back into the turbulent era of Godwin Emefiele’s Central Bank governance…..READ ALSO Presidential Insight: President Tinubu’s Bold Move To Float Naira Revealed By Presidency
In a bold statement from Mr. Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Atiku’s call for a controlled floatation of the naira was categorically dismissed as a potential regression to policies that allegedly fueled financial malpractices and economic instability under Emefiele’s reign.
Onanuga staunchly defended Tinubu’s economic reforms, refuting claims of hastiness and asserting that recent CBN measures under Cardoso’s stewardship are yielding positive results, evidenced by a significant uptick in capital inflow, indicative of burgeoning investor confidence.
Challenging Atiku’s narrative on a recent governmental meeting, Onanuga clarified that the primary focus was on addressing food supply and stabilizing prices, not solely currency fluctuation as suggested by the former VP.
Expanding the rebuttal beyond economic discourse, APC’s National Publicity Director, Ibrahim, attributed Nigeria’s financial woes, including forex challenges, to the policies of the PDP government that facilitated Emefiele’s tenure at the CBN.
In essence, the Presidency’s stance painted Atiku’s proposals as a perilous gamble that threatens to undo the progress achieved under Tinubu’s administration, cautioning against revisiting policies deemed detrimental to Nigeria’s economic trajectory.
