The announcement was confirmed in a statement released on Monday by Chief Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity. Ngelale emphasized that the directive reflects President Tinubu’s commitment to enhancing energy security, improving efficiency, and reducing fuel consumption costs.
Furthermore, Ngelale highlighted that the President’s decision supports Nigeria’s ongoing transition to cleaner energy sources. CNG-enabled vehicles are recognized for their lower emissions and affordability, aligning with the nation’s energy reform agenda.
During a meeting with FEC members earlier on Monday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, President Tinubu reiterated his administration’s dedication to energy reforms. He emphasized the importance of setting an example as public officials in driving the adoption of CNG across the country.
In line with Tinubu’s directives, Ngelale stated, “The President further directed the rejection of all memos brought by members of FEC seeking the purchase of traditional petrol-dependent vehicles.” Instead, FEC members are tasked with procuring value-driven CNG-compliant vehicles.
President Tinubu remains committed to harnessing Nigeria’s gas potential to reduce transportation costs and improve the standard of living for all Nigerians. This directive underscores the government’s determination to lead by example in adopting sustainable energy solutions.
