Rain Alert! NiMet Releases 3-Day Weather Forecast Nationwide

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast a combination of sunshine, cloudy conditions, thunderstorms and rainfall across different parts of the country from Monday to Wednesday.

According to Ireporter Online, the weather outlook released by NiMet on Sunday in Abuja indicated that the northern region would experience sunny conditions with a few patches of clouds on Monday.

The agency also predicted isolated thunderstorms accompanied by light to moderate rainfall over parts of Taraba State during the afternoon and evening.

For the North Central region, NiMet forecast a generally cloudy atmosphere with intervals of sunshine throughout the forecast period.

In the southern region, the agency expected cloudy weather with occasional sunshine, alongside chances of thunderstorms and light rainfall over parts of Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom and Cross River states.

NiMet further predicted that thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rainfall could occur later in the day across parts of Oyo, Osun, Ondo, Lagos, Edo, Delta, Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, Anambra, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River and Akwa Ibom states.

For Tuesday, the agency forecast sunny skies with a few patches of clouds across the northern region, while isolated thunderstorms and light to moderate rainfall were expected over parts of Taraba State later in the day.

The North Central region was expected to remain cloudy with intervals of sunshine, while similar conditions were forecast for the southern part of the country.

NiMet said thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rainfall could occur later on Tuesday in parts of Ondo, Osun, Ogun, Lagos, Imo, Abia, Enugu, Ebonyi, Anambra, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Bayelsa, Edo and Delta states.

For Wednesday, sunny weather with a few patches of clouds was forecast across the northern region. The North Central region was expected to experience cloudy conditions with intervals of sunshine.

In the southern region, NiMet predicted cloudy weather with intermittent sunshine and the possibility of thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rainfall in parts of Delta, Edo, Bayelsa, Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Rivers states.

The agency warned that strong winds could precede thunderstorms in affected areas and advised residents to secure loose objects to prevent accidents.

NiMet also urged motorists to avoid driving during heavy rainfall and advised residents to disconnect electrical appliances from power sockets during storms. The public was further advised to stay away from tall trees because of the risk of falling branches and trees.

Airline operators were advised to obtain airport-specific weather reports from NiMet to support effective flight planning and operations.

The agency also noted that temperatures were expected to remain high, potentially causing thermal discomfort. Residents were therefore advised to wear breathable clothing, remain in well-ventilated environments and stay adequately hydrated.
