Real Reason They Want To Remove Me As Kano Governor – Gov Abba Yusuf Speaks
Kano State governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has asserted that his political challenges, including setbacks at both the Elections Petition Tribunal and, most recently, the Court of Appeal, are deliberate attacks against his political mentor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
Yusuf addressed these issues comprehensively for the first time since the appellate court upheld the tribunal’s judgment that led to his removal. He made these remarks during a stakeholders meeting of the Kwankwasiyya Movement in Kano, convened at the behest of Kwankwaso.

The meeting, attended by key figures such as the state deputy governor, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam, Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Ismail Falgore, federal lawmaker Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa representing Kiru/Bebeji constituency, leaders of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), as well as Kano State cabinet members and top government officials, provided a platform for Yusuf to share his perspective.

“Like it was explained, we are going to continue working under his (Kwankwaso) guidance and leadership to do the needful, God willing. But we must appreciate him (Kwankwaso) and be immensely grateful to him and we have to tell him that we are really proud of him.
“Even if the world says they are not going to give us anything because of his (Kwankwaso) vision, we are not going to turn our back on him and his vision,” he said.
Yusuf, in his address to party leaders, encouraged them not to lose hope and advised against engaging in verbal confrontations. Instead, he urged them to redirect their efforts towards motivating the people of Kano.
He also pledged to continue with ongoing projects that prioritize the welfare of the people, such as supporting women and children and addressing pension and gratuity concerns.
In a separate development, the NNPP expressed concern over the non-release of the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the Kano judgment delivered by the Court of Appeal on Friday. The party highlighted that this delay could impact its efforts to reclaim Governor Yusuf’s mandate.
Following the Friday judgment, Yusuf had announced his intention to seek redress at the Supreme Court, urging his supporters to maintain faith in the judiciary. However, four days later, the national leadership of NNPP raised an alarm, stating that its legal team was unable to obtain the CTC of the judgment necessary to initiate the appeal process before the apex court.
Abba Kawu Ali, the acting national chairman of the party, conveyed in a statement on Monday that this situation was encroaching on the 14-day window the party has to file its appeal.
“Unfortunately, this type of scenario is creating the belief (rightly or wrongly) that there are deliberate efforts in place to frustrate the party and the Governor of Kano State, His Excellency, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, as well as the legal team in their quest to get justice in the Kano State governorship petition as they head for the Supreme Court,” he said.
