Spearheaded by Deputy Senate President Barau I Jibrin and 20 other senators from the seven states comprising the North West zone, the decision comes after thorough consideration of a report presented by the Committee on Special Duties.

Chairman of the Senate Special Duties Committee, Shehu Lawan Kaka, emphasized the strategic importance of the commission in fostering socio-economic development in the region. He highlighted the urgent need to bring the federal government closer to the North Western states, which have suffered immense damage to infrastructure and livelihoods due to the activities of bandits.

Senator Kaka stressed the commission’s role in addressing the pressing challenges faced by the region, particularly in restoring infrastructure damaged by insurgents and bandits. Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin commended his colleagues for their unanimous support, emphasizing the crucial role the commission will play in ensuring food security and overall development in the country.

With the bill’s passage in the Senate, attention now shifts to the House of Representatives for approval before reaching the desk of the President for assent.
