Representing Anambra Central in the National Assembly, Umeh acknowledged the challenges faced by the LP but pointed out that political parties regularly encounter internal conflicts. “Every party faces crises; it is not exclusive to the Labour Party. While we acknowledge the difficulties we are encountering, we are diligently working to address all issues within the party,” Umeh said.

He also touched on the broader economic challenges affecting the country, noting that the National Assembly has been actively supporting the government in its efforts to resolve these issues. Umeh added that there has been no request from President Bola Tinubu that the National Assembly has declined.

When asked about the Labour Party’s performance in the recent local government elections in Abia State, Umeh responded that such elections are often influenced by various factors and that the upcoming general elections hold more promise for the party.

At the event, Dr. Ben Nwoye, the chairman of the empowerment initiative, praised the effort as a true demonstration of democratic values. Nwoye, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), emphasized that good governance transcends party lines. “I’m here to promote good governance, and Senator Kelvin Chukwu is a member of the Labour Party. What I’m doing here today is to promote good governance,” he said. He urged the recipients of the empowerment items to make the most of the resources provided to encourage further support for such initiatives.
