The summit will run from November 18 to 19, with President Tinubu’s visit following an invitation from Brazilian President and current G20 Chair, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. The theme of the summit is “Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet,” focusing on sustainable development in the economic, social, and environmental sectors, as well as global governance reforms, climate change, and the digital economy.
During the event, President Tinubu is expected to engage in important bilateral talks aimed at advancing Nigeria’s socio-economic reforms. The Brazilian presidency has made key issues such as the Israel-Hamas conflict and the growing geopolitical tensions between the United States and China a priority for the summit.
The G20, which includes 19 member countries, will address critical global issues, and the African Union and European Union have also been invited to participate. This reflects the summit’s focus on key challenges such as food security and the fight against extreme poverty, with a commitment to achieving sustainable development by 2030.
